KS3 Curriculum Guide
The department offers in-class support, withdrawal for individuals and small groups and links with all subject departments to consider appropriate lesson materials and approaches. A variety of learning programmes are used with the department including Toe by Toe, Word Wasp & Catch Up.
The most able pupils are identified through testing and teacher recommendation. Those with specific needs, whilst being identified in the same way, are placed on the appropriate stage according to the SEN Code of Practice.
A Home Learning club is run by the department after school each day. Pupils are encouraged to attend so that they may receive extra tuition with home learning and coursework.
How Parents Can Help
Parents/carers can inform the department of concerns or raise queries via the pupil planner, by telephone or by letter. They are advised to read regularly with their son/daughter, offer home learning support and encourage their children to attend school workshops.
Pupils are expected to take an active part in the life of the school whatever their academic ability. The vision of the department is to support pupils towards independence.
Our SENCO is Mr Richard Bradley and any questions or concerns should be addressed to him.
